Friday on the Farm~Upcoming Classes

We have gone from 80 degrees yesterday to the 40's this morning in Michigan. Brr. It is supposed to last through the weekend. I am not too upset as we have 2 alpacas and 6 pygora goats that need to be sheared and this will keep them cool until Sunday when we are able to get to it. I also have about 20 angora rabbits that I will be shearing starting next week as well. The bunnies just don't do well in the heat at all, plus that gives me more fiber to spin.

 School finishes here for us next week. I am so excited, it has been a LONG year. I am looking forward to some time to garden, knitting and spinning and enjoying summer with my kiddos. Eldest moves home from college next week and 2 yr old foster son is still here and probably will be for a while;) He is a sweet little boy that is growing by leaps and bounds. It is amazing what some nurturing will do for a child. He turns 2 at the end of this month and came to us 10 weeks ago with NO vocabulary. We were concerned there were some major issues, not so much anymore! This child has blossomed and has our 5 kids quite smitten with him and they have spoiled him rotten. It is so fun to see our older children enjoy him as much as we do. Our youngest is almost 12 and our oldest turns 20 this year (with a 17, 16 and 14 year old in the middle). Eek! So having a little one again is so much fun.

Angora felted earrings

I am planning three, possibly four classes here at the farm this summer too. The first one is June 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will be a drop spindle class. You will go home with your own drop spindle, fiber from the farm, the knowledge of how to do it, and a full belly (lunch is provided). The cost is $65 per person. We will also have childcare available during this time if you would like to bring your kids to enjoy a morning at the farm (Hubby and daughters will be helping with this!) The second class is July 27 same time and place, but this one is "Natural Cleaning and Cosmetics" you can make at home. You will go home with a 5 gallon bucket of homemade laundry soap, a vitamin C face lotion, and homemade sunscreen, along with a few other recipes and ideas to tackle at home. The third class is August 24 here at the farm. This one is a felted earring class. You will learn how to make a pair of felted earrings from angora or pygora fiber here at the farm.

 The fourth class I am planning will be later this summer with the date to be announced. It is a natural plant dying class. You will learn to use plants and weeds to dye fiber and yarn! Stay tuned for the date!
