Friday Around the Farm


We are keeping busy with all that is going on around the farm these days.  The three oldest kiddos are gone for two weeks on a music tour with a local college.  They will spend this week at the college rehearsing for 6 hours or so a day and then they will start on tour Sunday and travel to churches in Michigan and Indiana.  I am soooo much missing them.  With three gone of the five the  house is so quiet.  

I had a batch of 8 angora babies born 5 weeks ago and slowly I have lost all of them.  The last one died yesterday.  I am not sure of what.  In the 7-8 years that I have been breeding angoras I have never had that happen.  Of course farm life is never dull and I went out early this morning to feed animals and found a surprise batch of five new angora babies healthy and strong.  We won't talk about why they are a surprise, lets just say that one naughty free range male (Moppet) escapes from his rabbit tractor and met up with a naughty free range female (Cole) and we caught them together one morning.  I didn't think to much more of it until this morning!  So we will try again and see how these five do.

Fiber Friday ~ Dyeing Fiber

Amazing sunrises and sunset on our little lake here in mid-Michigan have me pulling out my camera more and more. The view is just amazing. I sat last night and watched it as it changed from bright orange to purple and pinks to yellow and grey. I get inspired often from nature and had the idea last night to do some fiber dyeing and see if I can match these amazing colors and patterns.  Dyeing has been one of those fiber things that I would love to do more of, but there is definitely a technique to awesome colors and some people do it really well.   I am hoping to trying some natural dyes this year using some of the wild berries and plants we have all around us. For now I will be purchasing some fiber dye in hopes of mimicking some of the beautiful colors and patterns.

Upcoming Speak Up! Interview with Terri at Our Crazy Farm

I have mentioned quite often here about Hubby's "side job" in a ministry called Christian Devotions  where he hosts a Internet Blog Talk radio show called Speak Up!  He has been able to interview and "meet" some very awesome people.  He is very good at what he does and has a very good stage presence when it comes to interviewing people.  Me, not so much.  This is WAY out of my comfort zone.  I did help him about a year and a half ago and co-hosted with him, but didn't say too much. Why do I mention all of this?  Well I will be stepping WAY out of my comfort zone on November 29, because Scott is going to be interviewing a very dear "bloggy friend" Terry  .  I know a lot of you know who she is, and the faith walk her and her family have taken the 10 months.  I will be joining Scott to interview Terri.  I think this interview will have a grand impact on a lot of people and I hope some of you will join us and see where God is leading ...

First Day of Homeschooling~Nearing the Finish Line

We started on this journey 17 years ago, pretty much with no clue what we were doing. Hubby and I were both public school graduates, who leaped, both feet first, into the world of homeschooling with our five children. The three oldest had a year or two under their belt, the youngest two never stepped inside a school building. It was hard, wonderful, scary and fulfilling all at the same time. I know that is one my greatest achievements here on this earth.   The first day of school picture looks very different this year. Just him and I. My baby (not so much). Things change as they get older, learning to read and write is taken over by career goals and job searches. Making sure they can balance a checkbook, do laundry, and boil water for food (the struggle is real 😊😊) I find myself missing the days of reading out loud as all six of us pile on the couch in the afternoon.
