Nature Walk Wednesday

Image
I am trying hard this year to keep Wednesdays open for our nature walks.  The two youngest and I made it out on  this dreary afternoon, before the rain started.  There is a lot of things turning yellow, but very few major color changes here this week.  Hubby and I leave to spend some time at Mackinaw Island on Sunday (yay me:)) and this will be the latest in the season that I have ever been that far north.  I am hoping for some wonderful color and some pictures to share when we return! September 27 – Angela Kuncaitis 6:00 p.m. EST Join us this week on Christian Devotions SPEAK UP! as host Scott McCausey interviews “off-grid farmer” Angela Kuncaitis. Matt and Angela Kuncaitis were your fairly typical homeschool family living on a hobby farm in the rural Midwest…but on October 15, 2008 all that changed. They sold their home and purchased a 40-acre Amish farm with 9+ outbuildings, a pond, and more. All 8 of them. At first glance, this may not seem out of the ordinary, but there is

Interview with Homemaker Ang at Maple Valley Off-Gird Farm~!

I have mentioned here before that Hubby has a side job as a blog talk radio host for Christian Devotions Speak Up!  It has been an awesome opportunity for him and he has been able to interview some wonderful folks who are doing some great things for the kingdom! Next Tuesday, September 27,  at 6 p.m. eastern time, he will have my friend Angie from the  Maple Valley Off Grid Farm on his show!  I am so excited!  I was able to meet her and her family about a year ago, and then Hubby surprised me for my 40th birthday with a trip to their off-grid cottage this past spring.  This will be a wonderful show to learn how Matt and Angie made a difficult but awesome decision to live a very different lifestyle.  Don't forget to listen.  You can click the media player at the top left of my blog, or go to the website at http://www.christiandevotions.us/ to listen and learn more about the ministry!

Farm Stuff

We are quickly jumping into fall weather here in Mid-Michigan!  We had some frost warnings to the north of us yesterday morning.  We are a bit warmer today, but the season is quickly changing this year.  After the hard winter we had last year, I am wondering what we can look forward to this year!  We decided to get the apples and pears off the trees last night with this cold weather.  We got almost 2 bushels of pears and about 1/2 bushel of apples.  The trees were planted by us about 9 years ago and this was the first real harvest we have had!  We were really excited.  Although, if it were up to my potato farming skills to feed us through winter, I would have failed miserably as you can tell from the potatoes I dug last night!  We have carrots to pull and can today and some more tomatoes to get out of the garden.  Chickens are still laying My new boots:) Butterfly Bush Pears! Cortland Apples Cortlands "Dark Cat the Hunter" My potatoes:(( Lo
